Melbourne is a city that is renowned for so much – it is a cosmopolitan metropolis with a sprawling heritage and an incredible cultural focus. Among Melbourne’s biggest draw cards are the food and the shopping. It seems you can’t travel more than a couple of blocks without coming across another incredible cafe or restaurant, or an artisanal store selling bespoke handicrafts. Visitors who come to Melbourne always vow to return, and we’d love to share with you our five favourite shopping centres in Melbourne. While it’s great to walk up and down the streets of Fitzroy and Brunswick for a purchase, there’s something quite wonderful about shopping in air-conditioned comfort with everything you could possibly want under the one roof. So shopaholics, read on!
The Emporium in the City
This opened up to a lot of fanfare in 2014. Now it was possible for people shop for their favourite brands in the one place, in the heart of the city, and with air conditioning and no walking around from place to place. It was, basically, shopping heaven. Not to mention the plethora of incredible restaurants here that you can enjoy once you are all shopped out (but that isn’t going to happen anytime soon, right?).
Chadstone Shopping Centre
This has long been a drawcard, taking people from the top of Melbourne to the other side, just for some shopping paradise. There is a great benefit for people shopping from out of town, with the Free Fashion Shuttle departing from Federation Square daily, from its dedicated bus stop near the corner of Russell and Flinders Streets. Why not jump on board and grab a bargain from this great shopping complex. You can enjoy brands like Dior and Chanel, as well as Mecca Cosmetics and other beautiful brands.
This student paradise is home to many bargain stores as well as other higher-end fashion, and there’s a pretty incredible Chinese supermarket that you can grab some essentials from.
This is a great spot for anyone looking to buy some great Melbourne wares in a historic setting. You can stroll the streets and enjoy a coffee at one of the many restaurants or cafes lining the strip.
South Wharf DFO
This one is easy to access because it’s actually found inside the Melbourne City Free Tram Zone (as well as all of the others, except for Chadstone) so you can nip out there for a bargain or two. Perfect if you’ve been hitting the shops at The Emporium a little too hard.
We hope that you find these shopping locations helpful and that you enjoy the best of Melbourne’s shopping.
