With winter finally upon us and the warmth of autumn passing us by, Melbournians are sporting their warmest attire and heading out to face the cool change. While it may seem like the best time to hibernate and stay indoors, Melbourne’s eclectic events calendar has rendered that effectively impossible.
There are just so many incredible things happening over the next month, and so you can avoid missing out on the action, we’ve put together a list of our top picks! Plus, if any of these take your fancy, RNR Melbourne is here to provide a range of premium, centrally-located short stay serviced apartment options!
So, while you get your winter wardrobe ready for the months ahead, let’s have a look at what’s on in Melbourne this July!
Starting off with a bang, Melbourne’s beloved Winter Night Market is back; offering good food, excellent entertainment, and some fantastic locally-made products to choose from. Hosted at the Queen Victoria Market each Wednesday between the 6th of June and the 29th of August, the Winter Night Market is an excellent chance to taste Melbourne’s cultural offerings.
Whether you’re a live music lover, or simply someone who appreciates drinking a cold beer next to an open fire, there’s sure to be something that takes your fancy.
Bringing together an eclectic array of artistic works detailing Japan’s impact on Western art in the 19th and 20th century, Japonisme (Japan and the Birth of Modern Art) is an exhibition not to be missed! This showcase draws upon the entire NGV Collection, and displays a fascinating era in America and Europe’s artistic histories.
Currently displayed at the National Gallery of Victoria, the Japonisme exhibition is a cornucopia of fantastic works for fans of art and history. Plus, given that this exhibition runs until October 28th, you have plenty of time to get down to the NGV for this one-of-a-kind event.
In many ways, Melbourne can be seen as a tapestry of different cultural influences. This can be seen in every facet of the city, from its architecture to its eclectic culinary options. Because of this, Melbourne is often the host of cultural festivals; acting as a celebration of, and introduction to, a culture that is very different from our own.
One such festival is Taste of Portugal; a day filled with the celebration of Portuguese music, food, art and dance. As with the Winter Night Market, Taste of Portugal is hosted at the Queen Victoria Market on Sunday June 10th, and should absolutely find a place on your “things to experience” list.
